Symposium on technological change and digital economy

Together with the Shanghai Administration Institute, FES Shanghai held a symposium on developments and impacts of technological change and digital economy in China and Germany.

Technological change is fundamentally transforming our lives and our work. While it brings opportunities, it also presents many challenges for the economy and society.

New industries and business models arising from technological change are constantly emerging, and forms of employment have changed dramatically. How to promote innovation while maintaining social justice is a challenge for regulators.

FES Shanghai and Shanghai Administration Institute held a joint seminar on technological change and digital economy on 7-8 July 2020. More than 50 experts and scholars from China and Germany exchanged views on the impact of digitalisation and technological change on the economy, society and employment, as well as on how to regulate the digital economy and promote innovation.

Prof. Dr. Carsten Hahn from the Department of Economics at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Werner Eichhorst from IZA - Institute of Labor Economics, Kai Burmeister from the metalworkers’ union IG Metall, Prof. Dr. Daniel Buhr from the Institute for Political Science at University of Tübingen, Prof. Dr. Dietmar Harhoff from Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition participated in the conference by video.
