The new course of US foreign policy and its impacts on China and Europe

Scholars discussed the implications of the new US foreign policy for China and Europe.

On the invitation of FES, Dr. Marco Overhaus and Dr. Sascha Lohmann, both from the Americas section of the Berlin-based German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) joined the discussion with scholars from the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR).

After exchanging views on the domestic political situation in the US, the experts from both sides focused on the changes in the international order resulting from the new course of the Trump Administration. Touching on various topics such as security or trade, both sides agreed that despite their differences, Europe and China will be required to provide more global goods – for example in the question of global warming – in order to guarantee lasting stability of the international system.
