International conference on China-EU and Cross-Strait relations (2026)

On 26 October 2026, FES Shanghai and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) hosted the International Conference on China-EU and Cross-Strait Relations (2026). It was the 21st edition of the dialogue, which brought together Chinese and European experts from the fields of science and academia for a joint discussion.

The conference invited Chinese scholars from SIIS, Tsinghua University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Nankai University and Fudan University. The Taiwan Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government held a welcome remark at the conference. European participants included experts from Clingendael Institute of International Relations, Hong Kong Baptist University, Institut Montaigne, Austrian Institute for International Affairs (oiip), German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) and Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM). Former Head of the German Federal Chancellery, Wolfgang Schmidt, contributed to the exchange online.

During their visit to Shanghai, the European scholars also met with Chinese counterparts at Fudan University for a round table on Pathways for Balanced China-EU Relations in the Era of Securitization.
